Data & sources

Where the signals come from.

STLWTF brings public feeds into one place. Each source has its own coverage, timing, and occasional interruptions.

Reading a feed’s status

Last received
When this site successfully fetched the feed. The source’s observation or report may be older.
Last known data
A saved reading remains visible while a refresh is unavailable. Its age helps you judge how useful it is.
Unavailable
The source did not return usable data. This does not mean zero incidents or an all-clear.

Feeds refresh while you use the site. Background tabs pause automatic polling, and mobile refreshes are less frequent to reduce traffic.

Regional GOES satellite imagery

Clouds & time machine

NOAA STAR / CIRA ↗

The overview keeps the regional animated cloud map. Time machine lets you explore up to 24 recent observation frames with their capture times. Images can be delayed or missing; they are observations, not a forecast.

Selected station and forecast zone

Weather & alerts

National Weather Service ↗

Weather observations and alert bulletins are separate feeds. A weather reading does not mean there are no warnings. The observation time appears alongside current conditions.

A nearby radar station

Radar

National Weather Service ↗

Images update on the radar provider’s schedule. The radar panel identifies the station and reports when an image cannot be loaded.

Coverage varies by state and road

Roads & cameras

State transportation agencies ↗

Road reports and camera streams come from separate agency feeds. Reports can remain listed after conditions change; camera availability can change independently. Check report dates before traveling.

Public feeds near your selected location

Scanner audio

Broadcastify feed directory ↗

Broadcastify channels open on the provider’s site in a new tab; use its player to listen and stop playback. Stations are supplied by independent feed operators. Availability and what you can hear vary by channel. Silence may mean nobody is transmitting; it does not establish that nothing is happening.

Aircraft received near your location

Aircraft

adsb.lol and an optional local receiver ↗

Counts reflect aircraft reported by these receivers. Coverage can be incomplete. If both feeds fail, the site shows unavailable instead of an empty sky.

Regional and location-based news

Local headlines

Publisher RSS feeds and Google News ↗

Headlines link to their publishers. Publication dates are separate from the time the feed was fetched, and articles may require a subscription on the publisher’s site.

Nearby gauges and recorded events

Rivers & earthquakes

U.S. Geological Survey ↗

Measurements depend on individual monitoring stations and reporting schedules. Check the named gauge and the observation time when interpreting river readings.

Air quality model at your location

Air quality

Open-Meteo ↗

The air quality panel uses modeled estimates. It is not a reading from a sensor at your address.

Missouri feed only; availability varies

Water advisories

Missouri data portal ↗

This feed does not establish complete coverage of active boil orders. Confirm instructions with your water utility. The site does not infer a current boil order from historical water-quality violations.

Crash records: Missouri

Crash history & travel estimates

Agency records and distance estimates ↗

Crash history is distinct from current road incidents. Travel times are rough estimates, rather than measured navigation times. Outside Missouri, crash history is not provided.

National average

Gas prices

Bureau of Labor Statistics ↗

The gas series is a national price indicator. It does not show a nearby station’s current pump price.

Base map

Map

OpenStreetMap contributors ↗

Roads and place names are supplied by OpenStreetMap. The live overlays use the separate feeds described here.
